When is prophylaxis recommended?
Recommended in those that are/have:
Moderate-severe injuries, especially to the hands, genitalia or face or if have injuries that may have penetrated the bone or joint
Wounds in areas with underlying venous and/or lymphatic compromise
Immunocompromised
Asplenic
Advanced liver disease
Pre-existing or resultant edema of the affected area
Deep puncture wounds or associated-crush injury
Cat/Dog
Pasteurella spp.
Capnocytophaga spp.
Human
Eikenella corrodens
S. aureus
Streptococci spp.
Mixed anaerobes
