Staphylococcus aureus

Duration of Therapy

7-14 days +/- Incision & Drainage (send sample for culture)

Suggested Regimen

Cephalexin 500 mg PO q6h

OR

Cefazolin 1-2 grams IV q8h

OR

In the setting of severe infection (e.g., hemodynamic instability, progressive erythema):

Vancomycin 15-20 mg/kg/dose IV q8-12h

Penicillin Allergy

Clindamycin 150-450 mg PO q6-8h
