1-2 g IV q8h (may need higher dosing i.e. 3 g in obesity)
Renally cleared, requires dosage adjustment with changes in renal function. Consult a pharmacist for renal dosing.
Skin and soft tissue infection (i.e. cellulitis).
Surgical prophylaxis.
Susceptible Staphylococcal, Streptococcal and Gram negative infections.
Allergy (immediate or delayed). Cross allergenicty unlikely with other B-lactams
Can cause positive Coombs, cytopenias
Probenecid - prolonged half-life. Drug interaction has been used therapeutically to give once daily cefazolin for the treatment of cellulitis
Antimicrobial class: 1st Generation Cephalosporin
Average serum half life: Neonates: 3-5 hours Adults: 1.8 hours
Route of Elimination: excreted unchanged in urine
