Infectious Diseases

Uncomplicated: 7 days (unless otherwise indicated)

Complicated pneumonia (with effusion, abscess, immunocompromised host, etc) may warrant a longer course of therapy

Ceftriaxone IV 75-100 mg/kg/day divided q12h or q24h
Duration: 7 days

AND

Ensure adequate coverage for Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA and/or MRSA)

Risk factors for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

∙Previous isolation of MRSA from patient
∙Close household contact of those know to be colonized with MRSA
∙First Nations and/or lives on reserve

ALSO CONSIDER
