Treatment (< 6 Weeks of Age)

Empiric Antibiotics

Cefotaxime 200mg/kg/day IV divided q6h

AND

Ampicillin 300mg/kg/day IV*

*(divided q8h if < 7 days old)
*(divided q6h if > 7 days old)

CONSIDER

Acyclovir 60mg/kg/day IV divided q8h

TB, fungal infections and some other uncommon causes of meningitis are not adequately treated by the above regimen.
