Uncomplicated

Empiric Therapy

Ceftriaxone 1 g IV every 24 hr

PLUS

Metronidazole 500 mg IV/PO every 8 hr

Oral Stepdown

Amoxicillin/clavulanate 875 mg PO BID

Cephalosporin Allergy (or severe PCN allergy)

Levofloxacin 500 mg IV every 24 hr

PLUS

Metronidazole 500 mg IV every 8 hr

Duration

5-7 days

  • Treat only until obstruction is relieved.

  •  No post-procedure antibiotics are necessary if the obstruction is successfully relieved.
