At 72 hours, if >20% resolution, switch to oral antibiotics and treat fro 5-7 days total.
Residual inflammation causes redness even after patients have been successfully treated.
Listed doses and regimens are recommended for non-pregnant adults with normal renal function.
Cephalexin 500 mg orally every 6 hr
Good MSSA and Step activity
Cephalexin 1000 mg orally every 12 hr
Option if anticipate nonadherance to QID regimen
Bactrim 1-2 DS tabs orally every 12 hr
Hyperkalemia and increased SCr can occur
Doxycycline 100 mg orally every 12 hr
Clindamycin 300 mg orally every 8 hr
Good Strep activity +/- MRSA
Linezolid 600 mg orally every 12 hr
