CAUTI/Complicated Rx

Duration of Therapy

Longer duration: Patients with foreign bodies other than foley catheter (i.e. ureteric stent) that have developed biofilm which may not be eradicated- ID input advised.

Shorter duration: Females <65 with CAUTI, no upper tract symptoms, and catheter removed, 3d therapy will suffice as for uncomplicated cystitis

Directed Therapy

Change the catheter if present >2wks, and remove if not indicated

Beta-lactams including cephalexin, cefuroxime, cefixime, amoxicillin, and amoxicillin-clavulanate may be used if susceptible for 14d
