Pathogens
Antimicrobials
Simple cellulitis
Cellulitis + abscess
Suspected necrotizing infection
Features that suggest a necrotizing process:
Pain out of proportion to clinical findings Rapid progression Gas in tissues/crepitus (on exam or imaging) Overlying Tissue Necrosis Reduced sensation over affected area Severe Sepsis/Septic Shock
Diabetic foot infection / vascular ulcer infection
Bite wound
Penetrating injury/foreign body
Immunocompromised patient
Non-Resolving Cellulitis: Considerations
MRSA colonization rate is high among Indigenous populations in Newfoundland and Labrador, and empiric MRSA treatment for skin and soft tissue infections should be considered.
