Pharmacist Consult to pre-arrange out-patient medication coverage
Surgical Consult is recommended
Metronidazole 500mg IV q8h x 10 days
PLUS EITHER
Vancomycin 500mg (PO/NG) q6h x 10 days
OR
Vancomycin Retention Enema PR q6h x 10 days
500mg Vancomycin in 100 mL NS
May use diluted IV vancomycin PO or NG if needed as it is difficult to remove powder from capsules (reconstitute 500 mg vial as per directions and then further dilute in 30 mLs of water prior to administration)
Fecal Microbiota Transplantation
Recommended for patients with multiple recurrences of CDI whose conditions have failed appropriate antibiotic treatments
