Common Presentation

Fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea within 6-48 hours, fecal leukocytes often present

Shellfish

Treatment Recommendations

Most patients recover without antimicrobial therapy. Unclear if antibiotics shorten the duration of illness

Consider in severe or prolonged diarrhea or in immunocompromised patients

Antibiotics (if Indicated)

Azithromycin x 1 dose

OR

Greater than 8 years of age:

Doxycycline x 1 dose
