Non-Purulent Infections

Note

For mild infection, risk of MRSA is low. Treatment with cephalexin or amoxicillin monotherapy is sufficient

Oral Regimen I

Doxycycline 100 mg PO BID*

AND EITHER

Cephalexin 500 mg PO QID

OR

Amoxicillin 500 mg PO TID

Oral Regimen II

TMP/SMX 1-2 DS tab PO BID*

PLUS

Amoxicillin 500 mg PO TID

Oral Regimen III

Clindamycin 300-400 mg PO TID

Note

*TMP/SMX and doxycycline have poor activity against group A streptococci and should be combined with amoxicillin or cephalexin.
