Asymptomatic Bacteriuria

Considerations

Culture and treatment not required if patient is asymptomatic.

Culture and treatment not required if patient is asymptomatic.

  • Culture and treat as cystitis only if bacteriuria is identified

  • See below for a link to treatment in pregnancy.

  • Screen periodically throughout remainder of pregnancy for asymptomatic bacteriuria and treat if found.

  • Culture and treat as cystitis only if bacteriuria is identified.

  • Screen and treat pre-procedure (only if bacteriuria is identified).

  • There is no need for post-procedure prophylaxis, unless patient had suboptimal course pre-procedure or patient remains catheterized post-procedure.

  • Culture and treat empirically post-procedure if symptoms occur.
