Bite Wounds

Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) toxoid should be administered for dirty wounds if more than 5 years has elapsed since the last dose, and in the case of clean wounds, if more than 10 years.

• Prophylaxis may be indicated

• Consultation with local health officials is recommended to determine if vaccination should be initiated.
