Antimicrobials
Unnecessary antibiotics should be discontinued, or use lower risk agents if possible.
High Risk ABX:
Clindamycin
Ampicillin
Fluoroquinolones
2nd and 3rd generation cephalosporins
carbapenems
Zosyn
Vancomycin given intravenously is NOT effective.
Cholestyramine or Rifampin are not recommended as adjunctive treatment or for prevention of recurrent CDAD as evidence regarding their efficacy is unclear.
Consider avoiding the following:
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs),
Pro-motility agents and anti-peristaltic agents, including opiates and others such as loperamide.
