Do NOT treat asymptomatic patients with positive urine cultures
Antibiotics may lead to harmful effects
Antibiotics may lead to harmful effects to the patient that cannot be justified based on lack of any treatment benefits
Harmful effects may include
Clostridium difficile infection
Induction of antimicrobial resistance
The ONLY exceptions are:
Pregnant women
Before transurethral resection of the prostate or other urologic procedure for which mucosal bleeding is anticipated
