Wound Associated with Water - Tx

Suggested Regimen

Cephalexin 500-1000 mg PO QID

AND

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg po BID

OR for more severe disease

Cefazolin 2g IV q8h

AND

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg po BID or 400mg IV Q12H

Penicillin Anaphylaxis

Clindamycin 300-600 mg PO QID

AND

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg po BID

OR for more severe disease

Clindamycin 600-900 mg IV Q8H

AND

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg po BID or 400mg IV Q12H

Notes

Manage predisposing factors:

  • Elevate the limb

  • Treat edema

  • Treat tinea pedis

  • Arrange wound care

Often takes 48-72h+ before improvements in erythema/edema.

Duration of Therapy

5-10 days depending on response.
