All questions regarding whether rabies prophylaxis is required should be deferred to the regional Medical Officer of Health.
The host’s skin flora. Consider MRSA if risk factors present.
The biting species mouth flora, including notable pathogens:
Cat or Dog
Pasteurella spp.*
Capnocytophaga spp.*
Can cause sepsis in asplenics
Human
*These organisms produce beta-lactamases and are NOT sensitive to first generation cephalosporins.
