Isoniazid Preventative Therapy

Indications

1) Children >12 months who are living with HIV, and:

  • No known contact with a TB case

  • Unlikely to have active TB based on symptoms

2) Children <12 months who are living with HIV, and:

  • Have contact with a drug sensitive TB case, AND

  • Active TB disease excluded after investigations

IPT Regimen

Isoniazid 10 (7-15) mg/kg daily (max: 300 mg/day), for 6 months (6H)

OR

Rifampicin/Isoniazid daily for 3 months (3HR), using the new FDC

Alternative preventative therapy regimen, which is as effective and safe as IPT
