Corticosteroids

Indications

  • TB meningitis

  • TB glands causing airway obstruction

  • TB pericardial effusion

  • Severe immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS)

Dosing

Prednisolone 2 mg/kg daily

  • Increased up to 4 mg/kg daily in the case of seriously ill children (max: 60 mg/day, for 4 weeks)

  • Dose should then be gradually tapered over 2-4 weeks before stopping
