Febrile urinary tract infection indicates that there is suspected or confirmed pyelonephritis.
Children over 2 months of age can be treated on an outpatient basis if medical follow-up within 24 hours is assured, there are no signs of clinical instability, there is no history of recurrent infections/resistant pathogens, the patient has normal renal function and there is adequate oral intake and medication intake is assured.
Please ensure that adequate urine for microscopy and urine analysis and culture as well as blood cultures have been taken.

Tobramycin IM or IV as a single daily dose for up to 2 days until culture results and sensitivities available
OR
Cefixime PO
7 - 10 days
