Multiple academic papers and prizes focussed on clinical metrics and improving clinical efficiency.
In 1993 designed and implemented an EMR which is still in daily use.
In 1995 designed and implemented one of the world's first clinical data hubs allowing the secure transmission of lab results to medical practices.
On the back of that success was invited to present to the American College of Family Practitioners in 2008.
1999 Founder and CEO of Intelligent Medical Systems (Pty) Ltd.
In 2007 designed and implemented one of the first integrated RIS / PACS systems - see radiology.co.za
Since 2011 his time has been dedicated to finding solutions to antimicrobial resistance in medical facilities.
Those efforts resulted in Bluebird, a standardized, cloud based, integrated, infection control and antimicrobial stewardship system now used by more than 60 large hospitals and more than 130 ICU's, including the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Michael is Intelligent Medical Systems CTO and the brains behind the Bluebird Dev Team.

Michael has a BSc and majored in Computer Science. He has more than 20 years of experience in IT operations and database administration. Before joining IMS, Michael was involved with evaluating RFPs for a major IT systems overhaul at the University of Cape Town.

Over the last decade, Michael's skills have proved critical to the success of several IMS IT projects including the large-scale secure transfer of sensitive clinical information between labs, physicians offices and hospitals. Michael is an HL7 and integration expert. He designed and implemented many of Bluebird's unique and groundbreaking features.

Michael has also played a key role in the backend design of the Bluebird system.

Both the Bluebird Dev Team Leader and Operations Team Leader report directly to Mike.

Jacques is the Hospital Division Manager of Intelligent Medical Systems Pty Ltd and is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jacques heads the team responsible for the success of Bluebird implementation in acute care facilities. Over the last 6 years he has overseen the roll-out of 54 large hospitals in Southern Africa and is currently managing the roll-out of 6 more hospitals. Jacques will also oversee the GoLive of the flagship Nelson Mandela Hospital.

Both the Bluebird Support Team Leader and the Training Team Leader report directly to Jacques.

For the 5 years prior to heading up our hospital division, Jacques ran the IMS Doctor division (EMR, Data transfer Hub and RIS PACS). He developed close personal relationships with many of our client doctors and those interpersonal skills as well as his meticulous attention to detail made him the obvious choice for his current position.

Jacques breadth of experience has helped him develop a deep understanding of the difficulties front line clinicians face. By virtue of that experience IMS trusts Jacques to be intimately involved with Bluebird enhancements and he therefore works closely with both the Dev and QA Bluebird teams.

Sister Kelly is the Head of Clinical Surveillance at Intelligent Medical Systems Pty Ltd and is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Nicola provides deep clinical insight to the Bluebird team responsible for the success of Bluebird implementation in acute care facilities and is a resource available to hospital staff to help guide them in how to best monitor that Bluebird tools are being used to their full potential in their respective facilities.

Although Nicola only formally joined IMS recently, she has a very long association with the company and we are pleased that she has now joined our full-time staff.

Nicola is a Registered Nurse/Midwife with a strong academic background (which includes the Gold medal for Occupational Health at Stellenboasch University) and holds post-graduate qualifications in Pharmacology, Occupational Health and TB/HIV Management. Before joining IMS, Sister Kelly was a research study coordinator for the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation in association with Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University.
