Pathogen information

Resistant aerobic non-fermentative gram negative coccobacillus, often mistaken for Neisseria or Moraxella on Gram Stain

Epidemiology

  • Common in the environment (water, soil)

  • Generally causes nosocomial infection in North America and can occur in outbreaks

  • Infections seen in military personnel in war zones as well as natural disaster settings, i.e. tsunami/earthquake

Associated syndromes

  • VAP

  • Bloodstream infections

  • Biofilm infections of prosthetic devices

  • Wound infection (Burn Wounds)/SSTI

  • UTI

  • May be a colonizer
