Treatment can shorten the duration of illness (usually only by 1 day) and excretion of susceptible organisms and prevent relapse when given early in gastrointestinal tract infection
Recommend treatment for patients with prolonged or severe disease and immunocompromised patients
Increasing resistance to fluoroquinolone.
