Associated with penetrating wounds with environmental exposure
Gas gangrene/clostridial myonecrosis, necrotizing skin and soft tissue infection, septic abortion, intra-abdominal abscess, bacteremia.
Can cause clostridial toxic shock syndrome.
Foodborne self-limited gastrointestinal illness.
Urgent surgical debridement if devitalized tissue present (eg, necrotizing fasciitis or gas gangrene).
