Common Presentation

Severe abdominal cramps, and diarrhea within 6-48 hours

Commonly Implicated Sources and Seasonality

Fresh water, shellfish, international travel

Treatment Recommendations

Most patients recover without antimicrobial therapy. Unclear if antibiotics shorten the duration of illness

Consider in severe diarrhea, extremes of age, failure to resolve by 7 days and immunocompromised

Antibiotics (If Indicated)

Azithromycin x 3 days

OR

Co-trimoxazole x 3 days

OR

Ciprofloxacin x 3 days (second line)
