PNA 14 days or older: IV 100mg/kg/DAY divided q12h
PNA <14 days: IV: 60-100mg/kg/DAY divided q12h
40 kg and greater: IV/IM 1-2g q12h
Febrile Neutropenia: IV/IM 150mg/kg/DAY divided q8h. Max: 2g/dose
40 kg and less: IV/IM 100mg/kg/DAY divided q12h. Max: 2g/dose.
Broad spectrum antimicrobial with gram positive and gram negative coverage including Pseudomonas.
Used especially nosocomial infections involving resistant organisms
Allergy (immediate or delayed).
Can cause positive Coombs, cytopenias.
Antimicrobial class: 4th generation Cephalosporin
Average serum half life:
Neonates: 4-5hours.
Children 2 months to 6 years: 1.77-1.96 hours.
Adult: 2 hours
Route of Elimination: At least 85% eliminated as unchanged drug in urine
