Treat mildly ill patients < 6 months of age as moderately or severely ill as described below
CXR (2 views)
CBC w/ differential
Blood culture
RVP if viral etiology suspected. May reduce overuse of abx.
Pertussis PCR if completely vaccinated or clinically suspected.
Moderately Ill
Increased WOB (grunting, retracting, tachypnea)
Hypoxia (< 90% SpO₂ on room air)
Severely Ill
Concern for respiratory failure
Sepsis
Altered mental status
