Sepsis

If patient meets ALL 3 of the criteria listed below, the patient has severe sepsis:

I. Suspected infection

II. ≥ 2 SIRS Criteria:

• Temperature ≥ than 38.3°C or < 36°C

• Heart rate greater than 90 bpm

• Respiratory rate greater than 20 or mechanical ventilation

• WBC greater than 12,000 or less than 4,000 mm3

III. Systolic BP less than 90 mmHg after 30 mL/kg fluid bolus OR serum lactate ≥ 4 mmol/L
