Animal and Human Bites

Pasteurella multocida should be covered for cat and dog bites.

Consider a tetanus booster and/or rabies vaccination as indicated.

Eikenella corrodens should be covered for cat and dog bites

Antimicrobial Regimen

Amoxicillin/clavulanate 875 mg PO BID

OR

Ampicillin/sulbactam 1.5-3 g IV q6h

Penicillin Allergy

Ciprofloxacin 400 mg-IV q12h

OR

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg PO BID

PLUS

Clindamycin 600 mg-IV q8h

OR

Clindamycin 300 mg PO TID
