HCAP

The clinical diagnosis can be made if the patient has a new radiographic infiltrate PLUS at least two of the following:

• Fever >38° C

• Leukocytosis or leukopenia,

• Purulent secretions.

Etiologic diagnosis generally requires a lower respiratory tract culture, preferably obtained before the administration of antibiotic therapy.
