QuantiFERON Gold

Immunoserology test that measures T-cell release of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) following stimulation by antigens unique to M. tuberculosisis.

The results are reported as positive, negative, or indeterminate.

QuantiFERON Gold results are NOT affected by prior BCG vaccination and thus are useful in diagnosing latent TB infection in patients with a history of BCG vaccination.

As with the TST, results of this test should be interpreted with other relevant clinical information such as age, BCG status, history of contact with active TB, and risk factors that increase the risk of progression to active disease such as immunosuppression.
