Ruling Out IE

IE may be ruled out in any of the following situations:

A firm alternate diagnosis is made 

Resolution of clinical manifestations occurs after

4 days or less of antibiotic therapy 

No pathologic evidence of infective endocarditis is found at surgery or autopsy after antibiotic therapy for four days or less

Clinical criteria for possible or definite IE not met. See "Pathogenic and Clinical Criteria" on the previous screen.
