Early Onset GBS

Risk Factors

  • Maternal GBS genitourinary or gastrointestinal colonization in the current pregnancy

  • Delivery at <37 weeks of gestation

  • Premature rupture of membranes at any gestation

  • Rupture of membranes for ≥18 hours before delivery

  • Chorioamnionitis

  • GBS bacteriuria during the current pregnancy (>104 cfu/mL)

  • Temperature 38°C, or 100.4°F or higher, during labor

  • Prior delivery of an infant with GBS disease

  • Parenteral antibiotic treatment* given to the woman for confirmed or suspected invasive bacterial infection (such as septicaemia) at any time during labour, or in the 24-hour periods before and after the birth [*This does not refer to intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis]

  • Suspected or confirmed infection in another baby in the case of a multiple pregnancy
