Timing and Duration

After source control is complete, antimicrobial therapy should be discontinued when clinical signs of infection have improved.

Most patients require antimicrobial therapy for 3-7 days after source control.

Patients with evidence of ongoing infection at 4-7 days should be reevaluated for source control rather than continuing with a prolonged course of antimicrobials
