Most suspected cases of aspiration do not lead to aspiration pneumonitis.
Anaerobic coverage for suspected aspiration PNA should NOT routinely be added unless lung abscess or empyema is suspected.
If antibiotics were initially started consider stopping them in patients with active clinical responses by 48 to 72 hr after a perceived aspiration event.
