Single positive cultures of CoNS should NOT be treated unless they are confirmed by follow up cultures, the patient is immunosuppressed and/or critically ill, or the patient has implanted hardware. In these cases treatment can be started but repeat cultures should be obtained prior to the initiation of therapy.
