Open and Laparoscopic Biliary Tract Procedures in High-Risk Patients

Cholecystectomy, common bile duct exploration, ERCP without acute infections.

The following are defined as high risk patients:

  •  Emergency procedures

  •  Long procedure duration

  •  Intraoperative gallbladder rupture

  •  Age >70yrs

  •  Conversion from lap to open cholecystectomy

  •  ASA class >3

  •  Episode of biliary colic within 30 days before the procedure

  •  Bile spillage

  •  Jaundice

  •  Pregnancy

  •  Nonfunctioning gallbladder

  •  Immunosuppression

  •  Insertion of prosthetic device

For uncomplicated appendicitis
