Non-fermenting aerobic gram negative bacillus.

Epidemiology

Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials.

Common in hospital environment.

Associated syndromes

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • UTI

  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP

  • CNS

  • Intra-abdominal infections

  • Bacteremia

  • Vascular catheter infection

  • Burns/wound infection

  • Osteomyelitis

  • Others

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant.
