General Information

Common Usage

Skin and soft tissue infection (e.g. cellulitis).

Surgical prophylaxis.

Susceptible Staphylococcal, Streptococcal and gram negative infections.

Adverse Effects

Allergy and rash as for all beta-lactams.

Can cause positive Coombs, cytopenias, and hepatic and renal laboratory abnormalities.

Major Interactions

Probenecid - prolonged half-life. Drug interaction has been used therapeutically to give once daily cefazolin.

Not recommended unless no other alternatives.
