Influenza season and influenza-like illness
The season typically runs from Nov. to April, but there may be significant variation.
Clinical features: fever, headache, myalgia, malaise, non-productive cough, sore throat and rhinorrhea
Immunocompromised or significant travel Hx
Bronchiectasis or COPD with frequent Abx or steroid use
Recent antibiotic use < 3 months, end-stage renal disease, or IV drug use, colonized with MRSA
Presentation concerning for tuberculosis
Subacute illness, weight loss, night sweats, hemoptysis, travel to or emigration from endemic area, upper lobe infiltrates, cavitating lesions.
