Review previous urine culture data if recurrent UTI
IV: Ceftriaxone 1g IV daily
OR
IV: Gentamicin 5 to 7mg/kg IV daily
Dose on adjusted body weight if necessary; see drug monograph
PO: Ciprofloxacin 500 mg PO BID
When to use empiric fluoroquinolone:
Mild to moderate illness only
Tolerating oral intake
When likelihood of E. coli resistance is low (younger patient, none to minimal ABx exposure)
