Treat gonococcal infection for 7 days
S. aureus septic arthritis should be treated for a minimum of 4 weeks
Other bacterial etiology typically requires 2-4 weeks parenteral therapy
Early Infectious Disease consultation is recommended for outpatient management with the Home IV Program or the OPAT clinic
Early Orthopaedics consultation is important
Tailor antimicrobials based on culture and susceptibility results
Septic joints should be drained as often as needed. This can be done by needle aspiration
