HIV infection not detected, but if infant/child is breastfed, risk for acquiring HIV infection remains until complete cessation of breastfeeding
Perform regular clinical monitoring
For children who were never breastfed, additional testing following a negative NAT at 4-6 weeks is included in this algorithm to account for potential false-negative NAT results
HIV infection can be reasonably excluded among children with two or more negative virologic tests, six weeks after complete cessation of breastfeeding
