Dosing

Target dose range is 8.3 (5 to 11) mg/kg bw mefloquine and 4 (2 to 10) mg/kg bw artesunate per day for three days

5 to < 9 kg25 mg (with artesunate 25mg) once a day for three days

9 to < 18 kg50 mg (with artesunate 110 mg) once a day for three days

18 to < 30 kg100 mg (with artesunate 220 mg) once a day for three days

≥ 30 kg200 mg (with artesunate 440 mg) once a day for three days

Rifampicin decreases mefloquine exposure

Average serum half life: 8 to 15 days

Comments: Avoid in epilepsy, neuropsychiatric disorders. Do not redose within 2 months. Do not use as follow on treatment for severe malaria due to the increased risk of post-malaria neurological syndrome
