The following antimicrobials carry activity against Pseudomonas spp.

• Piperacillin-tazobactam

• Ceftazidime

• Cefepime

• Meropenem

• Ciprofloxacin

• Aminoglycosides

• Colistin

Variable resistance patterns with mechanisms to be resistant to all of these drugs is observed, which is why in severe infections, double coverage is often provided until susceptibility data is available. There is no role for double anti-pseudomonal coverage once susceptibility results are available.
