Anti-staphylococcal penicillins (i.e. cloxacillin) and cephalosporins (i.e. cefazolin) are optimal agents for intravenous therapy of MSSA infections.

Variable susceptibility to:

• TMP-SMX,

• Tetracyclines

• Clindamycin

Rates of MSSA resistance to clindamycin are high; clindamycin should NOT be used as empiric therapy for Staphylococcus aureus infections.
