80% of isolates are β-lactamase producers (i.e. resistant to ampicillin).
M. catarrhalis is sensitive to most 2nd and 3rd generation cephalosporins (e.g. cefuroxime, ceftriaxone) and to antimicrobials with a β-lactamase inhibitor (e.g. amoxicillin-clavulanate).
