CNS infection (encephalitis) without mucocutaneous involvement: Routine Practices
Neonates with HSV infection AND probable or definite mucocutaneous lesions : Contact precautions until lesions are resolved.
Neonates exposed to HSV during delivery (mother with genital lesions present at delivery): Contact precautions until infection of the infant can by ruled out by negative surface swabs for HSV or if no skin, eye or mucous membrane lesions develop within 2 weeks.
Non neonates with mucocutaneous infection (disseminated or primary and extensive): Contact precautions until lesions are resolved.
Non neonates with mucocutaneous infection (recurrent, localized lesions): Routine Practices however exposed lesions should be covered if possible.
