An association between orally administered azithromycin with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) has been reported in infants younger than 1 month.
However, azithromycin is still the drug of choice for treatment or prophylaxis of pertussis if the risk of developing severe pertussis outweighs the potential risk of IHPS.
